BACKGROUND: Liudmyla is a mastermind of the D&L IP Group. She received her first Dipl. Eng. graduating from Institute of Food Technologies where she gained indepth understanding of organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology and related technology processes occuring during the food processing. She succesfully used her knowledge  to develop and implement technology processes working for Research and Development Institute.

When Ukraine gained its independance in 1993 and the patent system was established in the newly independant state, Mrs. Portna focused her efforts on technology innovations and viable strategies for protection of Intellectual Property in the post Soviet legal environment co-founding the first leading Intellectual Property firm in Ukraine and becoming the managing director of "A. Prigof and Partners" in 1995.

Upon receiving her Diploma in Advanced Studies in Industrial Property Protection from Kharkiv Polytechnic University, she became a Patent Attorney of Ukraine representing  significant number of high - profile corporate patent portfolios such as ORTO-PHARM, INK (US),  E.I.Du Pont  Ne MOURS and Company,  Janssen Pharmaceutica N.V. (B.E.), Chinoin Pharmaceuticals (now Sanofi), Smithkline Beechem P.L.S. (G.B.), Agouron Pharmaceuticals Ink. (US), CENTOCOR INC. and many others before the Ukrainian Trademark and Patent Office.

After gaining Master of Civil Law Degree from Kiev Law University established by the Institute of State and Law, Liudmyla PORTNA proceeded to co - found legal IP practice in collaboration with Diana PORTNA establishing International Patent and Law Firm D&L Consult in 2003 where she represents client enforcing their intellectual property in all instances as well as continues to develop patent prosecution and translation practice that branched out as Patent Translation Center D&L Patent both entities forming D&L IP Group.  At this time the oldest patent practice in Ukraine, A.Prigof and Partners, has merged as an associated member into D&L IP Group.

ASSOCIATIONS: Liudmyla Portna is an active member of the Ukrainian chapter of the AIPPI ; she is also a member of the Ukrainian Association of Patent Attorneys.

PRACTICE AREAS: Liudmyla Portna concentrates her practice on microbiology and pharmaceutical patents; she also advises on trademark prosecution, enforcement and licensing issues.

BACKGROUND: Diana PORTNA joined the practice at the young age while she was still working on her bachelor's degree at the Department of Law of Kiev National Economic University, with the internship for one of the first patent law firms established in a newly independent Ukraine. She was assisting a group of prominent attorneys with maintenance of high -profile patent and trademark portfolios and intellectual property enforcement matters.

In 2001, Diana completed a two year advanced degree course in Intellectual Property and Law (with honors) and passed qualifying exam to become a Patent Attorney of Ukraine. Thereafter, Ms. Portna worked in the Intellectual Property Practice Group of Baker & McKenzie at its Kiev Office where she coordinated national trademark and patent filing, contributed Ukrainian chapter to a worldwide trademark clearance projects, drafted winning oppositions to provisional refusals under Madrid Agreement and Protocol, provided clients with advice on IP enforcement in the Ukrainian legal environment and otherwise actively participated in a vibrant international IP practice closely interacting with European IP Practice group as well as with in house corporate IP departments of major corporations.

In 2003, Diana Portna successfully graduated from Franklin Pierce Law Center, Concord, NH, United States, with Master's Degree (LLM) in Intellectual Property Law, Technology Transfer and E-Commerce and worked for major  International Law Firm in the USA before rejoining D&L in Ukraine.

PRACTICE AREAS: Diana Portna is a co-founder of the firm and is focusing her practice on developing global trademark prosecution and enforcement strategies for major clients. Diana Portna has a winning record of overcoming provisional refusals under Madrid Agreement and Protocol. Diana also undertook directing operations of D&L Patent leading extensive team of top patent translators and project managers to quickly become preferred vendor for ENG/RU AND ENG/UA pairs for major global language providers.
